Where all the magic happens.I am reminded of a scene in The Princess Bride. Inigo Montoya has failed to kill the Dread Pirate Roberts on the cliff top, and he is not taking it well. He sits outside of a hut, drunk and nursing a bottle. He says:

“I am waiting for you, Vizzini. You told me to go back to the beginning. So I have. This is where I am, and this is where I will stay. I will not be moved.”

Well, the democrats have failed to convince the American people that Obamacare is a good idea. They failed to convince each other that ‘reconciliation’ or the ‘Slaughter Rule’ were good ideas (although they’re going to hold their noses and try reconciliation). So they’ve gone back to the beginning. They’re back to a straight up-or-down vote in the House, trying to pass the Senate bill. Well, if they could have passed that in the House, they would have done that the first time.

The democrats just won’t give up. They will not be moved. I have to place blame where it belongs, though: squarely on the shoulders of the Republicans. They’ve been too conciliatory with the democrats. Too soft. And as we learned from the Dread Pirate Roberts:

“I mean, once word leaks out that a pirate has gone soft, people begin to disobey you and it’s nothing but work, work, work all the time.”

If the Republicans had been more unified in their opposition to Obamacare (I’m looking at you Rep. Cao) then the democrats would have known that they were doomed to failure. You can’t blame the democrats for thinking that they have a role in the legislative process, though. We haven’t been clear enough with them. They should know better than to go in against the Republicans when death panels are on the line.
