House Schedule

Health CareThe House should be starting their legislative day soon. The plan is this (all times eastern):

  • 1pm: The House convenes. The House democratic Caucus meets. ‘Bed check’ votes to allow time for last minute whip counts.
  • 2pm-4pm: First major vote – the ‘rule’ to establish debate guidelines. This was where the were going to try to pass Obamacare without technically voting for Obamacare by using the Slaughter Rule (‘Deem and Pass’). There was going to be a clause in the debate rules that deemed the bill that they were debating to have passed if the rules passed. That has been decided against. By America.
  • 4pm-5pm: Debate on the Senate bill.
  • 5pm-6pm: Debate on the package of ‘fixes’.
  • 6pm-7pm: ‘Motion to Recommit’ (MTR) may be offered by the Republicans, which (if passed) would Kill the Bill.
  • 7pm-8pm: Second and third major votes – first on the Senate bill itself, and just after that on the changes to the Senate bill, including the removal of the Cornhusker Kickback.
  • 9pm: Victory or defeat. One side is very, very happy. One side is very, very sad.

Of course, when you’re dealing with an institution this badly managed, you never know what’ll happen. It might all be done in an hour. We might be watching all night.
